Since the days when I could first hold a crayon, I have been creating.
During my senior year of highschool, I was blessed with an internship for a small company,
MindPlay.
I wrote music and recorded sounds for a few educational computer games, at the begining.
When they discovered I could draw, I was placed in an office with a computer and art software
and told, "Come out when you've figured it out". Two days later I was making game
graphics.
The realization that I could make interactive art, have fun, and keep my hands clean
left me with a desire to learn more about computer art. With this focus, I went to college at
Northern Arizona University,
in Flagstaff, Arizona. I spent 3 years studying graphic design, print, and typography.
During this time, I determined that graphic arts would never be as rewarding for me as the
interactive work I had experienced creating games.
In spite of this conclusion, my time was well spent by giving me a solid foundation in design.
NAU's Graphic design major required one semester of computer art.
It was here I learned HTML and how to make websites. Dilemma solved! I changed my major to Computer Art.
Making websites was the perfect fusion of problem solving and design
creativity that I sought. My work showed enough promise to grant me an interview with NAU's Office for
Teaching and Learning Effectiveness department. (They have since become
CTEL.) During my
employment, I made online web courses for NAU until my graduation.
After graduation, I worked as a web designer in Flagstaff, at a webhouse called Canyon WebWorks.
(They have since become
Cybertrails.)
During their height, Canyon designed or updated most of the larger sites in
Flagstaff and the neighboring areas, like Sedona.
Here, I had the unique pleasure of interacting directly with clients and enjoyed an open
environment of learning and dedication to quality work.
Later, I accepted an offer to move to Tucson for a position of Web Coordinator with the headquarters
of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Here I was responsible for many aspects of
MDA's corporate site. At the time, this site included two bi-monthly publications,
multiple chats, online donations, HTML email appeals,
and an online store. During my stay, I designed and built two more sites for MDA,
ALS DIVISION-MDA Web site
and MDA en español.
For a short time, I taught XHTML courses for the
extended
campus of University of Arizona.
What an amazing and rewarding job! There are few things better than seeing the light of understanding
spread across a persons face.
My latest work was with a small advertising agency called
The Envoy Group.
Here I worked with a talented and hard working team designing, building and updating multiple sites,
and creating mass distibution HTML newsletters and emails.
I currently work on a freelance basis through contracts from individuals and other web companies in
need of quality design and code done in a timely manner.
Feel free to read my résumé or wander through my
portolio to learn more about me.
